My first La Aroma de Cuba was given to me by a coworker nearly a year ago and since that day, I’ve smoke quite a few more. As soon as I came up with the idea to launch Oak and Smoke, I was determined to make the La Aroma de Cuba my first official cigar review. I originally intended to take some pictures for this review, but found myself without a camera when the occasion to smoke my final stick came. That really was an unfortunate turn of events for reasons I’ll get to in a moment, but first on to the review.

This past Christmas, my wonderful wife bought me a bottle of Balvenie DoubleWood. DoubleWood is a 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky that is matured in two distinct casks throughout the life of its maturation process. It starts its journey from malt to whisky in a traditional American oak bourbon whisky cask and is then transferred to a Spanish oak cask that has been previously used to age sherry. The traditional whisky cask makes sure the DoubleWood grows up to be a fine, upstanding Scotch, while the sherry cask acts as a finishing school designed to add depth and character.

Pleasant Smoke Shop and the Aleppo Shrine Center are presenting the “4th Annual Smoker” on Friday - March 7, 2007 at 6pm. Tickets are $100.00 and are limited to the first 150 participants. Tickets must be purchased in advance as no tickets will be sold at the door. Your ticket price includes a variety of handmade cigars from premium cigar producers. Indulge yourself on a full coarse steak dinner and enjoy a variety of premium spirits at the tasting booth. There will be entertainment and local cigar distributors on hand.

Welcome to Oak and Smoke, my personal weblog for everything related to whiskey, wine, and cigars. I’ve been a scotch drinker for years and recently started to get in to the world of cigar smoking. Even I was surprised at my level of interest in cigars and how it has intensified my love of scotch and other spirits. Nothing beats sitting on the patio playing cards with my wife, enjoying a great single malt and a good cigar.
