Oak and Smoke is my own personal notebook on anything and everything related to things aged in either oak casks or spanish cedar humidors. Of course, I’m talking about whisky, wine, and cigars. I am not an aficionado or connoisseur by any of the stretch of the imagination, I’m just a guy who likes a good glass of scotch and a fine cigar. This site was simply created as an outlet for me to write about these things and maybe, just maybe, help someone else find a good glass of scotch and a fine cigar.
My name is Don Farland and I’m a 35 year old IT manager living in New England. I’ve got a roof over my head, a good job, a hyper-active black lab, and a wonderful, loving family. My wife buys me the occasional bottle of scotch, turned me on to good wines, and generally tolerates my new found love for cigars. I am living the dream.
I know full well that there are some rather “pedestrian” selections in the lists above. I do love an Opus X and Ashton ESG every once and a while, but they’re not a regular thing. The items listed above are those things I choose to purchase for myself over and over again.
