Welcome to Oak and Smoke

Welcome to Oak and Smoke, my personal weblog for everything related to whiskey, wine, and cigars. I’ve been a scotch drinker for years and recently started to get in to the world of cigar smoking. Even I was surprised at my level of interest in cigars and how it has intensified my love of scotch and other spirits. Nothing beats sitting on the patio playing cards with my wife, enjoying a great single malt and a good cigar.

Over the past couple of months, I have been writing about my cigar experiences on my other weblog (dandyman.us) and quickly realized that they were some of the most popular posts on the page. While this was a good thing for driving traffic to that site, I started to think more and more about creating a new web site for the sole purpose of sharing my experiences with new cigars and spirits. Alas, here it is. I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Oak and smoke is a cool name - very catchy! I used to read your blog occasionally over at dandyman. This is a better idea and site.

  2. Dandy!

Didn’t know you indulged, in either!

I’ve been smoking cigars here and there for years, and of course Scotch…always a good thing.
Glenmorangie has been my choice for a while now, I like the sherry cask aged variety.

What cigars have you been into lately?
I was lucky enough to have two boxes of Habano Montecristo’s, #1’s and #2’s for my wedding back almost 5 years ago, I kept what was leftover in my humidor and, sadly enough, just smoked the last torpedo a few weeks ago…a memorable experience as it had aged in the humidor all those years…yum.

My favorite go-to cigar these days are A.Fuente Don Carlos #2’s, love the torpedos.

Great site, I’ll be checking in!!

  3. Hey Step,

I haven’t tried the Glenmorangie yet, but I’ll give it a try sometime and post my thoughts. My personal favorites are Oban and now the DoubleWood.

I haven’t tried the #2’s yet, but I hear they’re quite good. The cigar I have a real sweet spot for is the La Aroma de Cuba, and I’m going to try and do a review of it shortly. I absolutley love Arturo Fuente Hemmingways and Robky Patel The Edge cigars.

I’m still a newbie, but I love learning.
